The Poznan Juggling Scene

The Poznan Juggling Scene

The Poznan juggling scene has developed hugely in the last 10 years. The small random gatherings in Dom Academic and around the town by a university group in 2008 with the odd group fire juggling in the Rynek during the weekend have developed into a very well organised, regular event with a large array of equipment for attendees to practise with.

Kinia and Łukasz have really helped shape the Poznan scene by forming a very active organisation, Fundacja Pro-Spin which now organises and runs regular events for circus enthusiasts in and around Poznan. These generally happen in the Amarant Centre in Jeżyce or in the park opposite the theatre on Fredry Street.

Both venues have some excellent attributes, for example the Amarant Centre has a huge space complete with stage and high ceilings, perfect for numbers juggling and beginners scarf juggling as it is sheltered from both the unpredictable winds and the glare of the sun. The park however, is perfect for those who are interested in skateboards (while the fountain is dry) and slacklines with well spaced trees down the sides.

On the 26th March the group ventured to the park for the first outdoor event of the year – Spring is finally here! The turnout was completely astonishing with 20 plus people all sharing skills and performing some extremely technical tricks! There were three slacklines set up in the trees, children running around with some fantastic intricate balloon swords as well as hula hoopers, staff spinners, and jugglers of all abilities. Furthermore, the weather was ideal with a warm sun and the grass was lush and inviting for people that needed to rest between training bursts.

The people running the slackline area were particularly open and welcoming and were full of hints and support for anyone that wanted to have a go. Although more exciting was the fact there was a huge range of people from all walks of life including: craftspeople, entertainers, doctors and students as well as a multinational element with attendees sharing skills from Europe, The Ukraine and from as far away as South America!
